Pinterest can be a great resource for your photography business. Here are my top ways to use Pinterest for your photography business.
#1. Sharing Your Work | Marketing Yourself to Potential Clients
Our potential clients are always on Pinterest wether they are planning their dream wedding, day dreaming about their senior portraits, or learning how to do the perfect smokey eye.
Pinterest is a great platform for showcasing your work. The Pinterest Gurus recommend creating one board for each genre you shoot and posting an assortment of your images there. Make sure you use long descriptive keyword strings and include locations to increase the chances of local clients coming across your work while browsing Pinterest for ideas. Something as simple as pinning a picture of your client that had the most fabulous makeup and mentioning their smokey eye in the caption could expose you to thousands of Pinterest users perusing makeup tips…and one of those users could be your next client!
#2. Creating Inspiration Boards | Help Your Clients Figure Out What to Wear
Educating our clients is a HUGE part of what we do as photographers. Especially when it comes to what to wear. Often times our clients need to see inspiration or ideas on what to wear in order to spark that creative side inside of them. In general people tend to gravitate towards what is familiar to them when it comes to picking clothes for their portrait session, or even things that they already have in their closet. Showing our clients how to put together complete looks that are outside of the norm and will look great in portraits is essential.
Try creating one board with different sections that showcase different looks put together like individual style boards. When creating each section think of a “look” you would like to showcase, then include items that complete the look. You may include a dress, accessories, shoes, hair and makeup ideas, and even inspiration for a location.
#3. Creating & Collaborating on Style Boards for Individual Clients
If you help your clients in choosing the perfect look for their portrait session, you can also use Pinterest to create individual boards that serve as inspiration for their session. After talking to your client if you are able to get a feel for the aesthetic they are going for with their session, you can create a board specifically for them and pin some ideas you have in mind for them then send it over as a way to get them excited to start planning for their session. You can even add them as collaborators so they are able to add to the board themselves. As the planning process progresses you can add or remove items, and tweak the board. Eventually it will turn into a style board that is just for them! Some photographers even use a board like this to get posing inspiration and know what type of posing their clients lean towards.
Recently I had maternity portraits done with Felicia Reed Photography, before our session she asked me to Pin images that I loved to a board for inspiration and during our session she pulled from many of the photos I had added to our board. She also has a fabulous client closet, so after looking through my board, she knew exactly what type of looks I was leaning towards and how to make clothing recommendations for our session. As a client Pinterest was a super valuable tool that she provided me with to make sure I ended up with the end result I wanted from the session.
