Karinda Kinsler: Tell us about you and your business.
Taylor: I’m Taylor, I started my business last August, but really had no idea what I was doing. I decided to invest in coaching in January of this year and took time figuring out who would be the best person to work with. I really connected with the things Karinda had to say, so I just decided, let’s do it. I mean, it wasn’t that simple. But eventually, I decided.
Karinda Kinsler: I love it. So how has your business changed since working with me?
Taylor: So much. The biggest and most obvious thing is how my pricing has changed. My prices are now where I never imagined they could be. Even just my schooling horse show prices are totally different and allow me to be much more profitable. It’s shocking to me. Another thing that’s changing is my mindset with everything. It was so shocking to me that people could actually make money doing photography, I never thought I could. So I’m working on that a lot. And that’s definitely changed because of Karinda and the way she has worked with me.
Karinda Kinsler: So your horse show sales have doubled. Is that correct?
Taylor: Pretty much, I was making about half last year. Yeah, I would say so. And all I did was change my pricing. Like it’s all the same horse shows and the same number of people.
Karinda Kinsler: I know, we made a few simple tweaks to your pricing. The Psychology of pricing is the same regardless of portraits or horse shows. So tell me this, I know that you just had your first official clients go through the new process of your business. How has that been different for you?
Taylor: That’s another huge thing, my client experience has changed significantly. This client I worked with actually was a raffle winner at a horse show. I thought she’d never want to buy anything and that I’d lose money on this client. That is not what happened, she is so interested in prints because I had prepped her from the start even though she had won her portraits. She doesn’t care about digitals and I think that’s really huge to say about what we’ve worked on together. I had no idea how to interact with my clients before we worked together. They would just book and I’d show up, now I have a very specific workflow that I follow with my clients that really preps them.
Karinda Kinsler: Did you expect her reaction after her session happened?
Taylor: I did not expect it. I thought she would just take the print credit included and run. But she went the entire session and bought dresses, did her nails and got her horse braided. I kept wondering what was happening, this prepping your client thing is working and it was crazy. I don’t know how the gallery reveal is gonna go as I haven’t had it yet, but she’s very much been prepped. I feel comfortable going into my first gallery reveal, which is weird, because I thought I’d be terrified.
Karinda Kinsler: What made you decide to work with me?
Taylor: My friend actually worked with Karinda and pointed her out to me, so I looked into what she offered. I remember thinking how I want to make a 1000’s of dollars. So I decided that I would save up and invest in this. I thought about how much I had invested in my college degree. If I could invest in that I could definitely invest in my business. In the long run, I’ve made back what I invested in this coaching and then some. A lot of coaching offered a single coaching call and I knew that wouldn’t work for me. What I really wanted was someone who was going to be with me for a decent period of time. So that’s why I decided to go with Karinda, and Voxer was a huge selling point for as well. At any point, I can just text her for advice on a client that was mean to me how and she’ll just be there.
Karinda Kinsler: Exactly! Can you explain Voxer a little bit more for people that don’t understand it.
Taylor: So it’s sort of like texting, but you can also send voice messages as well. It’s great when you just need to rant and cry a little. But it’s basically a thread between me and Karinda. If I have an issue, I’ll just be like, hey, I need help with this and she’ll reply. A couple of weeks ago, I had an issue with a client wanting deals, as I’ve given her deals in the past but didn’t want to keep doing it. I had no idea how to say no. So I Voxered with Karinda and we figured it out and it all went fine. Just that backing of knowing you’re allowed to stand up for your business and communication between coaching calls.
Karinda Kinsler: Tell me about your thoughts on the 1:1 meetings we have. Can you elaborate on some things that maybe you’ve gotten done during calls we’ve had together?
Taylor: You don’t just get information, it’s like an active meeting. It’s saying let’s do this now and this is your homework, it’s very laid out. So I feel like I know what to, I have purchased online courses and would get overwhelmed with the information and not knowing what to do with it. But when we work in our one on one calls, we’re actually getting things done, or you know what you need to do. There are very concrete steps that make it a lot less overwhelming.
Karinda Kinsler: One last question, if you were to give somebody who in the beginning of their business and are unsure of what they should invest in advice, what would it be?
Taylor: You don’t know until you try, right? You can sit there and do nothing and probably not go anywhere, or you can take this step and invest in yourself. I think that if you’re considering it, there’s a reason you’re considering it. Pretty much what you’re investing you’re gonna make back, even if you get one good client, you’re gonna make money. And it’s not gonna be a loss at the end of the day.
Karinda Kinsler: If you could give everybody one piece of advice that you’ve learned with me, what would that piece of advice be?
Taylor: Mindset, my friends, you will work on your mindset. I did not realize how much my mindset was holding me back. If you’re that person who thinks no one’s ever going to spend $4,000 on pictures, prepare yourself because I used to think the same thing. It has been such a huge change to work on my mindset and I’ve never had another coach or something I bought online help me work on it like Karinda has. It’s really underneath everything else, you can have your prices set, you can have everything written out, all of your templates, but if you don’t have the right mindset, it’s not gonna change. When you work with Karinda your mindset is going to change.
Karinda Kinsler: So here’s a fun question. All right, what’s your one day sales goal?
Taylor: The first number that came to my mind as far as like, that would be amazing was like $10,000.
Karinda Kinsler: Can you imagine what you would have said if I asked you this question in January?
Taylor: I would have been like $100.
