How to Stop Standing in the Way of Success

We have all been there, you start feeling the stressors of serving your business but not necessarily seeing the results you had hoped for. It can be so easy to fall into a negative mindset based around why your business hasn’t launched the way you imagined.

You may blame yourself for not working harder, producing better photos, or maybe you have an uncomfortable relationship with yourself and money.

Believe it or not, those negative thoughts rotating through your mind are exactly what is standing in your way in terms of growth and success. So how can you identify that you have started building a wall around the progress of your business and what steps can you start taking to break it down?

Whether you are brand new here, a past coaching client or someone I work with currently, mindset will always be the first puzzle piece I suggest looking into. Today I am going to break down a few limiting beliefs guilty of holding photographers at any level back at one point or another.

Limiting Belief: A state of mind or belief about yourself that restricts you in some way. These beliefs are often false accusations you make about yourself that can cause a number of negative results.

When you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or ready to throw in the towel after something you tried in your business didn’t pan out exactly how you had hoped, there is likely a limiting belief standing in your way.

You may be struggling with limiting beliefs if one or more of these statements have entered your mind.

⛔I failed

⛔I am not good enough

⛔I can’t quit my job and earn enough money as a full-time photographer

⛔It is my fault that my business hasn’t grown faster than it should be

⛔I am not worth charging a lot of money for what I do

Photographers at all levels get discouraged from time to time and limiting beliefs similar to if not the same as the ones above sneak their way in, but we don’t have to accommodate those negative blocks.

Something I regularly work on in my own business and especially with my coaching clients, is taking a moment to lay it all on the table and regain peace.

Try setting a timer for 5 minutes in a quiet space and write down any negative thoughts you have when it comes to your photography business. After your timer goes off, stand up and walk out of the room. Shut the door if you have to. Then I want you to walk back into the room, sit down, and begin to re-write those negative blocks into positive and encouraging statements.

You are going to feel like you are crazy, but I promise you, it works. Take each negative thought associated with your photography business and change it into a positive statement. Continue to do this with each limiting belief you wrote down and start introducing those new stories into your daily life.

You see, if you don’t put a stop to those negative thoughts in your head surrounding you and your business, they will begin to take a toll and if not handled, could push you away from your passion. The first and most important piece to owning and operating a successful portrait business is maintaining a positive mindset around money, value and principles for both you and your potential clients.
