How to Stand Out From A Million Other Photographers

Be Personal – let your clients fall in love with you

If you build a business unique to your “Why” you will never have to compete with another photographer again- you can speak to your ideal clients on a deeper level and connect with them by showing them your heart. My favorite example of this is one of my coaching clients who lives in an areas where I have a ton of clients, as a matter of fact, she is one of my direct competitors.

You might wonder, why on earth I would take on a competitor as a coaching client…and the answer might surprise you, I took her on as a coaching client because I knew that her knowing her “why” and exactly what differentiates her means we never have to compete with each other.

Her “why” is rooted in the fact that horse allow you to be like a child even when the word expect you to grow up or be an adult.

My “why” is shaped around the fact that sometimes life suck and feels ordinary, horses allow us to be transported out of the ordinary and into a magical place and my portraits allow people to hold on and savor that feeling even when life gets tough.

Both of us having a grasp on our “why” allows us to stand out from one another and speak to different people.

Know your competitors weaknesses & do it better

This is the one time I give you permission to look at your competitors and what they are doing, but 99.9% of the time I always say “put your blinders on and ignore them.”

It is important that we have an idea of what our competitors do – or don’t do- and that we are able convey the value in what we do offer that is different to our potential clients.

Do you offer a planning consultation and help your clients pick out their outfits, but your competitors dont?

Do you help your clients design wall art displays for their homes, but your competitors dont?

Share these things- educate your clients about all of these amazing things you do.

Or potentially it comes down to something simple- like what happens when you someone inquires with you- do you talk to them and get to know them, but your competitor just sends the same generic email and booking link to each and every person? Do they take 36 hours to respond to emails? Then respond in 18 hours.

Take what they do- do it better- do it differently.

Price Yourself Differently | Don’t be afraid to stand out 

Did you know that you can actually stand out- just by being priced differently?

Have you ever been shopping? Let’s say you own a horse.

You are looking for the perfect pair of boots for your horse. There are a million options.

Have you paid attention to what typically stands out to you? The cheapest- and the most expensive things typically stand out the MOST. You think “Oh that pair of expensive boots must be amazing,” and there is a piece of you that almost lusts over the most expensive thing.

You will save up- you will long for it- and you will want it because it has to be the best.

Let’s be honest. You don’t know anything that really makes them special- but they must be special because they are expensive.

Your clients feel the same way when looking for a photographer they take notice of the most expensive, the shiniest thing and they strive to get that.

Don’t be afraid to stand out by being the most expensive in your market.
