Your days of perusing Pinterest and randomly pinning random things to random boards are over. I want to give you a strategy to Pin with Intention so you don’t end up spiraling down the Pinterest rabbit hole and wasting hours of your day….ok, I will be honest, you may still end up down a rabbit hole, because it is addicting.
Create the following boards and make it your goals to have at least 50 high quality pins in each board.
Pin Your Own Work – 1 Board for Each Genre
Create a board showcasing each genre that you photograph, that is full of your work. Use descriptive captions and make sure you are linking back to your website or blog.
Create Inspiration Boards for Your Clients
Use your boards to help inspire your clients and help them prepare for their session. You could provide inspiration on what to wear by providing tips and tricks on creating the perfect look, creating style boards, or even showing what past clients have worn. Help your clients figure how to do their own hair and makeup, provide inspiration on what hair and makeup looks the best in photos, or even how to find a hair and makeup artist.
Join Group Boards- Look for 2-3 Group Boards
Group Boards are boards where multiple people on Pinterest come together and share their content in a centralized board. These boards are great because often times you can find HUGE group boards with lots of followers which will get you more eyes on your content.
Look for group boards that are relevant to what you photograph. Head over to Pinterest, search the “boards” category for “XYZ Group Boards.” These boards typically have the words “group boards” in the title, and will have a description including what they are for, the rules, and how to join the board. If you are a wedding photographer you may try searching for “wedding photography group boards” but you could also try things like “wedding design” or “wedding flowers” or other relevant terms that are you could add content to.
Typically to join a group board, you will have to message the board owner on Pinterest after you follow them, and ask them if you can join. Here is an example of an Equine Photography Group Board on Pinterest.
